the titanic

Through the course of time, Technology has been developing through the creations of massive towers, inventions, etc. However, on a Sunday night the cost of £512 room ocean liner went to waste. The time and effort that this £1.5 million invention was wasted as it sank to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean when it came head to head with the unlimited power of nature.

It all began before noon on April 10, 1912 and all the passengers were are ready boarded. The third class passengers were only making a one-way trip looking for a better life somewhere across North America. For those who were wealthier they stayed in a very luxurious and high classed area and rooms. This privilege and comfort came with a costly expense, but it wasn’t something that they couldn’t manage. During the trip new friendships and contacts would form and develop. After the last of the passenger settled in, the first and final voyage of ‘unsinkable’ commenced. After one day sailing the calm waters the Titanic arrived at Cherbourg tiny port. After on hour and a half of waiting, a group of people departed and the Titanic was on route for the Irish town of Queenstown. Unfortunately, it was the last sail it will ever be on.

The Titanic shortly arrived at Irish town of Queenstown the next morning at 11:30. Once again the port was too small so they went back out to open waters and then the officer and crew broke out into their routines activities and watches. The passengers had the chance to roam the labyrinth corridors and maybe meet new friends and begin new relationships. It was a learning experience for the passengers and the crew aboard the new ship.

Days went by sailing westwards across the Atlantic Ocean towards next stop at New York. It was Sunday noon, the 14th   of April 1912, the Titanic had traveled 1, 500 miles into the empty ocean. She was constantly receiving warnings of ice from another vessel which had just encountered some ice. Would the crew and Captain Smith be alert from the danger that waited ahead?

It was around 11:00 and night, everything was going great, wine was flowing, and food was being served. The crew and staff were on their original routines and watch, until colossus sized iceberg loomed in front of the eyes of the officers. They were less then 200 feet away and they couldn’t steer clear of iceberg. The collision had penetrated 6 of 10 watertight docks. Crew members and officers were doing everything in their power in order to save the ship but the damage was to fatal as they reported back to the captain. So Captain Smith order’s were “Women and children first!" as the crew urgently began lowering the life boats. All the men escorted their wife quickly to the nearest life boat like Dan Marvin and quickly told her “It's all right . . . you go and I'll stay awhile." Only 705 of 2227 survived. It was definitely one of the biggest tragedies of all time.

The loss of the "Titanic" was a great tragedy. Two thirds of the ships company perished in the freezing waters. Many families lost loved ones, many people lost friends, and people lost thousands of dollars and lots of jewelry. Many saw this as a stern warning from God. It turned out to be the beginning of the end for the great British Empire. They would not be the nation to wrap up world history after all. Nor would their church be wrapping up the world for Christ. Two years later a generation of young British men were in the trenches in France. There they were in the rain, the mud, and amongst the barbed wire facing the German artillery and machine guns. The losses the British Empire suffered in the Great War were beyond belief.
